Rich Edwards named Heathwood Hall girls basketball coach

Heathwood Hall stayed within its coaching family for its next girls basketball coach. The Highlanders named Rich Edwards the new coach Wednesday, replacing John O’Cain, who stepped down earlier this month.

Edwards was Heathwood’s JV boys basketball coach the past five seasons and has been at the school eight years.

“I am very excited about this wonderful, yet challenging, opportunity. I am grateful for the support from coach Whalen, Mr. Hinchey and our school community,” Edwards said. “This is something that I have wanted to do again for a very long time, and I have been blessed to have received the reins of our program at Heathwood. My hope is that our program at Heathwood will prepare our young women for success in the classrooms, on the basketball court, and in the real world after graduation.”

The Highlanders went 6-15 this season and lost in the first round of the SCISA 3A playoffs to Porter-Gaud.

Heathwood also named Ashley Jordan its new volleyball coach. Jordan has been an assistant at Richland Northeast and coach of 15U National Elite volleyball team.
