Lexington’s quest for perfection continues.

Mary Katherine Waters and Megan Classer scored goals in the first half as the top-ranked Wildcats defeated No. 4 Wando 3-1 on Friday in the third round of the Class 4A lower state playoffs.

Lexington (23-0-2), ranked No. 18 in the latest USA Today/NCSSA rankings, will host James Island on Monday in the lower state championship. James Island defeated Fort Dorchester 2-1 in overtime.

The Wildcats are in search of their first state title appearance since 2007.

Lexington led 2-0 going into the second half and Maggie Schopp made it 3-0 with 12 minutes left. Prior to Friday’s match, Wando hadn’t allowed a goal in nine straight matches.

The Warriors’ lone goal came from Hanna Belford with 2:15 left. It was the first goal allowed by Lexington in three playoff matches. Lexington has outscored its opponents 23-1 in the postseason.
