Baxter’s Blitz: Lexington WR Carroll has versatility

More “Five on the Rise” football players from around the state:

Justin Berry, QB, West Ashley At 6-foot, 185 pounds, he is one of the top dual threats in the state for the 2016 class. He finished second in the Rivals Regional Quarterback Challenge this past weekend in Atlanta.

Slade Carroll, RB, Lexington This 5-10, 205 running back has good speed, deceptive power and traffic navigation skills. He rushed for 1,630 yards in a one-back spread offense last season but would excel as a back in an option attack.

Omari Johnson, CB, Stratford A 2017 athlete, he has a good skill set at cornerback. He has great speed, quick hips and flexibility, and can backpedal and transition without losing a step.

Nick Roberson, K, Greer This 5-11, 150 specialist has been money for the Yellow Jackets. Last season, he was 53 of 58 on extra points with six field goals (and a long of 40 yards). He was second team SCVarsity All-State at kicker as a junior.

John Simpson, OL, Fort Dorchester A 6-4, 288 trenchman, he is one of the top 2016 prospects and ranked 11th nationally as a guard by Rivals.com. He has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina, among others.
