A look at the top passing, ground attacks in the Midlands
THIS WEEK, we will take a look at the top units in the Midlands football arena with the top passing offenses and top rushing attacks previewed.
PASSING
1. Lexington Wildcats: The Wildcats have all the weapons surrounding the quarterback. Two 6-foot-4 or taller wide receivers, along with two lethal slots are dangerous targets. Two quarterbacks – Donny Baker and Brandon Blake – bring strengths to the pass attack.
2. Blythewood Bengals: The Bengals are strong at quarterback with senior David Israel returning. With weapons such as Trae Churn and Eric Weber, the Bengals could generate more than their 190 yards-per-game passing from last season.
3. Airport Eagles: The Eagles have a bright young star in quarterback Brett Burnett, along with several big-play players such as wide receivers Josh Tucker, C.J. Wright, Kerryon Richardson and tight end Alec Spooner.
RUSHING
1. Brookland-Cayce Bearcats: The Bearcats’ hybrid flexbone offense will demonstrate threats from a backfield that can make big plays from anywhere. A fleet of backs led by senior Charles Balkom, A.J. Brown, Cam Brown, and Sammy Lykes will produce at least two 1000 yards rushers.
2. Westwood Red Hawks: Coach Rodney Summers’ Red Hawks will be dangerous through the air, but this team returns Andrew Plante carry, and he should eclipse 1,200 yards this coming season, complimenting the passing game very well.
3. Swansea Tigers: The Tigers lost a solid running back to graduation, but they return Chance Walker, who was a 1,500-plus rusher in 2014. Look for more of the same in 2015.
