Flora’s Greene, Lexington’s Schadewald lead way at Challenge

The QB1 Challenge was held Saturday night at Brookland-Cayce High and several Midlands players were among the top finishers in the event that challenges players at the quarterback and wide receiver positions.

Among the quarterbacks, A.C. Flora’s Brendan Greene captured the senior class QB MVP award, as well as the Outstanding QB award. Two players placed in the freshman class as MVP. Brookland-Cayce’s Reed Charpia and Gray Collegiate’s Reese Fields took home honors. In the overall standings for quarterbacks, three Midlands quarterbacks finished among the top 10. Greene was No. 1, Charpia was sixth and Gray Collegiate junior Bryce Fields was eighth.

In the wide receivers group, Lexington senior Tyler Schadewald won the senior Class WR MVP and Outstanding WR award. Camden junior Jorien Watson won the junior WR MVP and Blythewood’s Dalen Mickle won the sophomore WR MVP award. This was Mickle’s second year winning his class MVP. Seven Midlands players finished in the top 10 with Schadewald at first, Lugoff-Elgin’s Gunnar Catoe second, Camden’s Watson fourth, Ben Lippen’s Cole Owens fifth, Heathwood Hall’s Todd Corley sixth, Blythewood’s Mickle eighth, Lower Richland’s Keyon Hair ninth.

Other Midlands standouts were Dutch Fork junior quarterback Caleb Clark, who finished fifth in the long-toss competition and fourth in the senior class. Gilbert sophomore quarterback Tanner Watson finished third in his classification. Gray’s Jeffrey Bramblett finished third in his classification. Lexington sophomore Dylan Kicklighter had the best long toss in the sophomore group.

Wide receivers Tyon Billups of Irmo and Aydan Fields of Gray Collegiate tied for third among sophomores.
