Chapin has erased any doubts about its ability

Chapin quarterback Bailey Logan has emerged as one of the top players in the state.
Chapin quarterback Bailey Logan has emerged as one of the top players in the state. Special to the State

Here are five things we learned from Week 2 of high school football:

1. CHAPIN IS FOR REAL: If there were any doubts about Chapin because of not being tested, its convincing win over 2A powerhouse Newberry should erase them. Quarterback Logan Bailey continues to take over games and has become, in my opinion, the state’s most dominating player.

2. LEXINGTON IS THIS YEAR’S CARDIAC KIDS: The Wildcats have now waited to start playing football in the fourth quarter for two consecutive weeks as they allowed Wando to push them around for three quarters before taking the lead and holding on late. The ability to win ugly makes one wonder how good they can be if they play a perfect game for four quarters.

3. DUTCH FORK WILL FIND THEIR GROOVE: After an 0-2 start, the Foxes traveled to Boiling Springs and with the gut punch of Stephen Davis, Jr. and quarterback Cole Douglass, delivered a whupping to the Bulldogs. Adjustments have been made to the attrition and the Foxes are ready to play football.

4. AIRPORT EAGLES ARE SOARING: The Eagles have not put together a solid game on both sides of the football and proven they are deserving of their preseason No.1 region ranking. Quarterback Brett Burnett is back and the defense was solid against a dangerous Lower Richland team in a 30-0 shutout to move the Eagles to 3-0 on the season.

5. RIDGE VIEW BLAZERS ARE A HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR: This coach Perry Parks team plays with excitement and relentless drive. Overcoming a 20-point halftime deficit, the Blazers put together a solid offensive effort in the third and fourth quarter, answering every Irmo challenge. Best of all, a leader on the field emerged in the form of quarterback Jalen Nelson.
