Midlands full of talent on defensive line
This week we will talk about the top returning defensive linemen in the Midlands for the upcoming season.
1. Tyreek Jackson, Lakewood (Sumter) – At 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, he’s already committed to South Carolina. Jackson is a solid prospect as a strong-side defensive end.
2. Octavious Pringle, Brookland-Cayce – Pringle is a shade over 6-1 and 280 pounds. While he has played on the edge for the Bearcats, he is a 3-technique type at the next level.
3. Jalen McCoy, Lexington – Just a junior, McCoy (6-3, 230) has the ability to play strong-side or weak-side end, and is stong enough and physical enough to move inside.
4. Malik Sumter, Dutch Fork – Sumter is a bit undersized at 6-0, 270, but is one of the best inside defensive linemen in the Midlands. He’s fast, aggressive and strong. He’s s difference maker.
5. Matthew Boring, Lexington – 6-4, 255-pound interior lineman. Has good rush technique, uses his hands well to fend off blockers and has a nose for the ball.
6. Shaheem Haltiwanger, White Knoll – Another strong guy who can play outside at the high school level, this 6-3, 250-pound athlete will move inside at the next level.
7. Devin Miller, Airport – At 6-1, 253 pounds, another undersized guy for the Power 5 types, but a definite prospect at least at the FCS level.
8. Thai Wood, Lugoff-Elgin – Tough interior lineman with good size at 6-2, 285. Aggressive with good feet.
9. Jared Lough, River Bluff – At 6-1, 190 pounds, Lough is undersized for the edge of the defensive front, but he’s aggressive with a motor that doesn’t quit and is an outstanding high school player.
10. Armon Bosier, Blythewood – Another undersized end at a shade over 6-1 and 185 pounds, but very effective coming off the edge.
