Six Midlands basketball players picked for SC-NC All-Star game

Six Midlands basketball players, including two each from Spring Valley and Blythewood, were selected to play in the North Carolina-South Carolina boys and girls all-star games.

Blythewood’s Eli Lake, Spring Valley’s Jordan Bruner and Gray Collegiate’s Ian Kinard were picked for the boys game. The Bengals’ Lauren Harley, SV’s Christian Hithe and Dreher’s Jhieleya Dunlap will play in the girls game.

Dutch Fork girls basketball coach Faye Norris will be a coach for the S.C. squad. Both games will be held March 19 at Socastee High School.

Bruner, a Yale signee, is the second-ranked prospect in the state, according to 247Sports. He is averaging 14.5 points and an area-best 4.5 blocked shots a game.

Lake signed to play at Navy and is averaging 11 points and five rebounds a game this season.

Kinard is the first all-star selection in any sport at Gray Collegiate, which is in its second year. He is averaging 10.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks a game this season.

Dunlap, Hithe and Harley all are Division I signees.

Dunlap is signed to play at North Carolina and ranked as the 20th best forward in 2016 class by ESPN. She is averaging 19.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.6 blocks a game. For her career, she has scored 1,478 points.

Hithe, a Central Florida signee, is averaging 16.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 steals this season for the Vikings. She was the Class 4A Player of the Year last season.

Harley is headed to UNC Charlotte and is averaging 17.9 points a game this season. She is the school’s first female Division I signee for basketball.
