Championship games are set for 18th annual Chick-fil-A Classic
It was an eventful semifinal round Saturday at the Chick-fil-A Classic at Richland Northeast High School.
There was a last-second shot and some great individual performances on the third day of the tournament.
North Carolina signee Puff Johnson provided the most dramatic moment of the tournament when he hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to lead Hillcrest Prep (Arizona) to a 61-60 win over Huntington Prep (West Virginia) in the semifinals of the National Division bracket. Hillcrest will play La Lumiere (Indiana) in the title game. La Lamiere, which won the CFA title in 2016, defeated Prolific Prep (California) 63-59 in a battle of top-10 ranked teams in the country.
Jalen Green, the third-ranked prospect in the country, nearly willed Prolific Prep to an amazing comeback. Prolific trailed 37-18 at halftime but Green scored 29 of his 34 points in the second half as part of the comeback attempt.
Green hit a 3-pointer to cut it to 60-59 with 22 seconds left. After Wendall Green hit two free throws to put the Lakers back up 62-59, Prolific Prep had a chance to tie but turned it over.
In the American Division, it will be Dorman and Greensboro Day (North Carolina) in the finals. Dorman dominated Cannon School 69-45 behind 15 points and 11 rebounds from Clemson signee PJ Hall. It’s the second year Dorman has advanced to the championship. The Cavs are tying to become the first SC team since Hammond in 2015 to win a championship.
Greensboro Day moved into the title game with a 56-47 win over Immaculate Conception (New Jersey). NC State signee Cam Hayes led the way with 15 points.
