MLK Bash switching locations, plus Tuesday’s Midlands high school basketball scores
The sixth annual Crescent Construction MLK Bash is switching locations this year.
The event is moving from Eau Claire High to Brookland-Cayce High, event organizer Carey Rich announced Tuesday. The MLK Bash wasn’t held last year because of COVID-19.
The dates and times will remain the same. The girls event is Saturday beginning at 11 a.m., with the boys on Monday at 10;30 a.m.
“In wanting to be respectful and stay compliant with the Covid-19 safety measures put in place by Richland School District One, the sixth annual MLK Boys and Girls Basketball Bash will be played at Brookland Cayce as opposed to Eau Claire.. BC gives us plenty space to socially distance, while also being able to enjoy good hoops action,” Rich said. “We’re so appreciative of coach Wells and coach Charpia for both quickly jumping on board to accommodate us.. As recent as today, I strongly considered canceling the event out of concern for Covid-19 and potential bad weather but after speaking to several well-respected coaches that are scheduled to play, to a person, they all said let’s play within 20 seconds of the conversation..
“We are strongly encouraging spectators and participants to wear masks so that we’re able to protect ourselves and others.”
The girls MLK Bash schedule is: Northwood vs. Ridge View, 11 a.m.; South Pointe vs. AC Flora, 12:30 p.m.; Westwood vs. Lower Richland, 2 p.m.; Wren vs. East Clarendon, 3:30 p.m.,; North Augusta vs. Cardinal Newman, 5 p.m.; Camden vs. Keenan, 6:30 p.m.
The boys schedule is Wilson vs. AC Flora, 10:30 a.m.; Sumter vs. Blythewood, noon; Lexington vs. Spring Valley, 1:30 p.m.; York Prep vs. Irmo, 3 p.m.; Legacy Charter, 4:30 p.m,; Gray Collegiate vs. Keenan, 6:30 p.m.
