Dreher, Westwood, Ridge View help playoff positioning with victories in finales

It was the final Friday night in the high school basketball regular season for the Midlands teams and it didn’t disappoint.

Playoff berths and seedings were on the line in many of the matchups. Here are some of the highlights across the area:

Dreher and Westwood earned playoff berths with a pair of wins over district rivals. Dreher knocked No. 2 AC Flora, 48-40, to earn the final spot from Region 4-4A. Westwood had to go to two overtimes to knock off Richland Northeast, 66-64, to earn the third seed from the region. The loss eliminated Richland Northeast, which needed a win or Dreher loss to make the playoffs.

The Ridge View boys got 30 points from Rivals Class of 2023 No. 1 prospect GG Jackson and won their sixth straight region title with a 77-56 win over Blythewood. Despite the loss, the Bengals are third seed by tiebreaker over Spring Valley.

Ridge View girls clinched the fourth spot from Region 4-5A with a 58-24 win over Blythewood and Spring Valley, which won a non-region game moved up to No. 2 spot after Rock Hill defeated Northwestern.

AC Flora girls clinched the No. 2 spot in Region 4-4A with a 67-53 win over Dreher. The Blue Devils are the third seed.

Hammond’s Tyra Myers went over the 2,000-point mark with a 36-point effort in the 56-55 win over Legion Collegiate. Myers, a senior, now has 2,004 points in career.
