The annual Bash high school basketball showcase returned to Ridge View on Thursday and featured several familiar faces in different roles.

Yerrick Stoneman, who led Ridge View to four state championships, was back with his Oak Hill program. GG Jackson, who was part of the Blazers’ title run, also returned but as a fan. Jackson, who bypassed his senior season in high school, is in his freshman season with the South Carolina men’s basketball team.

On the court, Gray Collegiate and Ridge View each faced powerhouse programs Gray taking on nationally-ranked Combine Academy and the Blazers facing Oak Hill.

The Gray and Combine match up went down to the wire with Combine pulling out a 54-52 victory behind Collin Tanner’s 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Gray, which led early on, got a chance to tie or win it on the last possession. Trai White got a good look on a 3-pointer but missed and LJ Britt’s shot at the buzzer hit the front of the rim as time expired.

“These kids played really hard and left it all on the floor,” Gray coach Dion Bethea said. “We could have went for the tie but I told them ‘let’s go ahead and win it.’ We put it in best player on floor’s hands and he just missed the shot. That’s how it goes sometimes.”

White led Gray with 14 points and Treyvon Maddox had 12.

Oak Hill gave Stoneman a 64-51 win in his return. Dontae Russo-Nance and Zion Pipkin each had 17 points to lead the Warriors.

“Well it was good to see some familiar faces and see some of the guys I coached the last two or three years,” Stoneman said. “It’s good to see they are playing hard for coach (Joshua) Staley.”

Joshua Smith led the Blazers with 10 points.
