SIGNINGS ROUNDUP: Chapin, Lexington athletes sign letters of intent

Chapin’s Catherine Bendziewicz, Brooke Burns, Lindsay Harris, Tyler White and Kathryn Hughes signed their letters of intent Thursday on the second day of the fall signing period.

Bendziewicz signed to swim for Marshall University. She holds eight school records and won 3A state championships in the 50 and 100 freestyle this year.

In softball, Burns, who has 12 homers and 144 RBIs in her career, signed with North Carolina, and Harris signed at Presbyterian. Harris has 12 homers and 120 RBIs.

White, a pitcher, signed with the Lander baseball team. Hughes signed to play volleyball at Anderson.

Ten Lexington players sign

Lexington girls basketball players Taylor Foulks and Destnee Langford, and golfers Hailey Cleary and Nicholas Beirs were among the 10 Lexington athletes to sign letters of intent.

Faulks signed with Francis Marion, while Langford’s headed to Lander. Cleary signed with the nationally-ranked Limestone women’s golf team, while Beirs is going to Coker.

Other signees were tennis player Katie Thompson (Presbyterian), softball players Courtney White (Presbyterian) and Kaybriana Spalding (Converse), Hunter Janus and Miles Fowler (Queens triathlon team) and swimmer Bri Mazzei (Georgia Southern).

Thompson played No. 1 singles and won 49 straight matches going into her senior year.
