Midlands High School Basketball Teams of the Week
GIRLS
Fairfield Central – Moved into the Class 2A state rankings at No. 8 with wins over Newberry and Mid-Carolina.
Spring Valley – Moved a game away from clinching the region title with wins over No. 10 Ridge View and Dutch Fork last week.
BOYS
Cardinal Newman – Knocked off nationally-ranked Hammond 66-61 on Tuesday and has a shot at region title with victory over Heathwood Hall on Thursday.
Westwood – Stayed alive in the playoff race with a pair of wins, including Tuesday’s 44-41 victory over No. 5 Blythewood.
