Dutch Fork’s Jordan Davis, Dreher’s Jhileiya Dunlap earn state player of year honors

Dutch Fork’s Jordan Davis and Dreher’s Jhileiya Dunlap have been honored as two of the state’s best players by the South Carolina High School Basketball Coaches Association.

Davis was named the boys Class 4A Player of the Year and Dunlap the girls’ Class 3A Player of the Year on the all-state teams were released Wednesday.

Davis, a guard, is having a breakout junior season and leads the Midlands in scoring at 22.6 points a game. He has offers from Charlotte, Cincinnati and East Carolina.

It is the second straight all-state honor for Dunlap, a North Carolina signee. The senior is averaging 20.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.9 steals this season for the top-ranked team in Class 3A.

Dunlap also has been selected to play in the Carolinas Classic All-Star game and was nominated for the McDonald’s All-American game. She is the 20th best forward for the Class of 2016, according to ESPN.

Davis and Dunlap are two of 21 Midlands players named to the all-state teams.

Joining Davis on Class 4A boys team were Lexington’s Darius Bryant, Spring Valley’s Jordan Bruner and Blythewood’s Eli Lake. It is Bruner’s second straight all-state selection.

In Class 3A boys, top-ranked A.C. Flora placed Kendale Hampton on the team. Lower Richland’s Ja’Cor Nelson and Richland Northeast’s Alex Caldwell also were on the team.

In Class 2A boys, Keenan’s Tariq Simmons and Fairfield Central’s Brandon Adams were on the team. C.A. Johnson’s Tajh Green was the lone Midlands player on Class A team.

Spring Valley’s Christian Hithe and Lexington’s Destinee Langford earned Class 4A girls all-state honors for the second straight year and were joined by Blythewood’s Lauren Harley.

In addition to Dunlap, Lower Richland’s Dejah Williford and Swansea freshman Denae McNeal were on the Class 3A girls team.

Keenan’s Brea Jackson, Newberry’s Nigeria Davis and Fairfield Central’s Tanise Davis were on the Class 2A team.

In Class A, Kaitlin Pickens earned her second straight selection and was joined by Gray Collegiate’s Taylor Toney, the school’s first all-state pick.
