C.A. Johnson girls blast way to win over Calhoun County
Kaitlin Pickens scored 25 of her game-high 36 points in the first half to help propel the C.A. Johnson girls basketball team to a 57-34 playoff win at Calhoun County on Monday.
The Hornets (22-4) advance to play Christ Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville for the Class A Upper State championship.
CAJ jumped ahead 13-8 in the first quarter, as Pickens scored 11 in the period.
The visitors made themselves at home even more so in the second quarter, as Pickens netted 14, helping the Lady Hornets outscore the Lady Saints by a 16-10 count. That gave CAJ a 29-18 halftime lead.
The domination continued in the third quarter, even as Pickens only scored six points in the period and was off the court for some time. The Hornets outscored Calhoun County 14-9 in the period, leading by 20 at one point and 43-27 at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, five CAJ players each made one field goal, ande momentum remained with the Hornets as they closed out the game outscoring the home team by a 14-7 score in the final period.
