Irmo seniors reunite at all-star event
Growing up, Tre’Vonne Bond and Dre’Von Sweat have played plenty of basketball together.
The two Irmo seniors will get to do it one more time Saturday at the Capital City Senior Boys and Girls All-Star games. The game is part of the inaugural City Hoops Festival at Heathwood Hall.
“Me and Dre’Von have been playing together since we first started playing basketball when we were very little,” Bond said. “It seems like we’ve been playing together forever. It’s something very special to be able to finish out your high school career with one of your best friends at an all-star game, which means both of us have done well for our team.”
Bond and Sweat were key members for Yellow Jackets backcourt in helping Irmo to the Class 4A championship game. Sweat averaged 13.4 points a game and Bond scored 11.8 per contest.
Bond and Sweat will be a part of the Gray team, which features sets of teammates from three different schools. College of Charleston signee Chevez Goodwin will be on the same squad as his Hammond teammates Michael Turner and Jonathan Yuchmow. Gray Collegiate has three on the team in Ian Kinard, Xavier Miller and Tyler Brevard. Airport’s Jalon Cokley and Daniel Gillins also are on the team.
The Blue team will feature multiple teammates from Blythewood, Ridge View and Class 3A champion A.C. Flora.
Class 4A champion Spring Valley will have Christian Hithe, Shantay Taylor and Dominique Hill playing for the Gray team in the girls’ game. Class 3A champion Dreher, Lexington, Fairfield Central, Keenan, C.A. Johnson all had multiple players selected.
A Junior Showcase will be held after the Capital City Senior Boys and Girls All-Star games. There will be a girls and boys game, which will feature the state’s top junior prospects including Mullins’ Jalek Felton, Daniel’s A.J. Oliver, Myrtle Beach’s Bryce Schneider and Dutch Fork’s Jordan Davis.
Felton, the top prospect in South Carolina for 2017 is committed to North Carolina and Oliver verbally committed to Clemson. Schneider has committed to Richmond. Davis hasn’t committed yet but has several Division I offers and is the Class 4A Player of the Year.
The games tip-off at noon and the cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-14 and 5-under admitted free.
