Ryan Molony steps down as Ben Lippen boys basketball coach

Ryan Molony is stepping down as Ben Lippen boys’ basketball coach after five seasons.

Molony has taken a pastor position at Radius Church in Lexington and will be overseeing the church’s small groups.

“It is a total career shift, but it is something I am really excited about,” said Molony, who told his team Thursday of the decision. “I will miss the relationships with the players and miss the group of seniors we had coming up.”

The 34-year-old coached four seasons at Laurens Academy before coming to Ben Lippen. He had a career record of 190-106, including 62-54 at Ben Lippen. The Falcons made the playoffs the past three years and were the team that ended Hammond’s 36-game winning streak when they defeated the Skyhawks 62-56 on Jan. 28.

Ben Lippen athletic director Derek White said a search for Molony’s replacement will begin. There is no timetable for having a new coach in place.
