Seventh Woods, Jordan Davis named to USA Today all-state team

Hammond’s Seventh Woods and Dutch Fork’s Jordan Davis were named the first team of the USA Today’s American Family Insurance boys basketball all-state squad released Tuesday.

Three Midlands players, Hammond’s Chevez Goodwin, Spring Valley’s Jordan Bruner and A.C. Flora’s Kendale Hampton, were named to the second team.

Davis, the Class 4A Player of the Year, averaged 22.6 points a game this season, while Woods, a North Carolina signee and the state’s top recruit, averaged 17.9 points and 4.9 assists.

Abbeville’s Joseph Battle was named the player of the year, Byrnes’ Layne Fowler was named coach of the year. Seneca’s Xzavier Barmore and Denmark’s Ozante Fields joined Battle, Woods and Davis on the first team.

Second team selections were Goodwin, Bruner, Hampton, Westside’s Austin Walker and Midland Valley’s Daniel Carr.
