Brookland-Cayce DT Pringle has big role for SC in Shrine Bowl

Looking at the numbers, Brookland-Cayce defensive tackle Octavius Pringle doesn’t show up often in the stat sheet for Saturday’s Shrine Bowl.

That’s life as a nose tackle, standing up to double teams, pushing pockets and opening things up for teammates.

The Bearcats lineman wrapped up his high school career as one of the more-used linemen for the Sandlapper team in a 17-10 loss. He made one tackle, but was on the line for a large chunk of the game, helping limit the Tar Heel offense to 3.8 yards per carry.

“I thought it would have been an even share, but whatever we need to go ahead for the team,” Pringle said.

He added he enjoyed the week in Spartanburg, getting a chance to learn from his temporary teammates and experience life away from home.

The 6-foot-2, 280-pound player will head to Coastal Carolina next season, and said his goal is to get better. While he’ll have football beyond this year, coming to the end of his high school career left him sad.

“Now that I think about it, it don’t feel too good,” Pringle said. “I wish I had another year.”
