Three Ridge View turnovers led to Sumter taking a 21-0 lead in the first five minutes of their game at Richland District 2 Stadium.

Even so, the Gamecocks needed another turnover – Jordan Gregg’s interception with 1:39 left – to close out a 28-21 victory over the Blazers on Friday night.

Ridge View fumbled on its first play from scrimmage. Gregg scooped up the ball and rumbled 17 yards to the end zone for the score. The Blazers fumbled the next kickoff away, which set up Dajon Butts’ 3-yard TD run.

Later, Melvin Lundy picked off a JaVon Anderson pass and returned it 68 yards to put Sumter up 21-0 by the 7:54 mark of the first.

Ridge View’s Treyvon Bouknight recovered a fumble in the end zone to start the second quarter, and Anderson found Walyn Napper for an 11-yard TD pass to cut Sumter’s lead to 21-14 by the half.

Treshad Jett scored on a 42-yard on a fake punt at the 5:26 mark of the third, but Zaykiem Jackson’s 1-yard dive in the fourth quarter put Sumter in the lead for good.
