Brookland-Cayce rolls past new-look Airport team

A young Airport team got off to a slow start Friday night, and Brookland-Cayce took full advantage.

The Bearcats jumped to a 21-0 lead over their crosstown rival and kept moving the ball toward a 42-21 victory at Bearcats Stadium.

Brookland-Cayce (2-0) got two touchdowns from Rasheed Taylor and another from Joe Pradubsri before Airport got on the scoreboard.

The Eagles completed a 10-play, 66-yard scoring drive with a 12-yard TD pass from Justin Allen to Zach Mosely with 8 seconds left in the half, but the Bearcats regained momentum in the second half. Brookland-Cayce got two scores in the third to take a 35-7 lead.

Taylor finished the night with three touchdowns and 142 yards on 16 carries. Reed Charpia was 7-for-9 in passing with 164 yards and a touchdown.

TURNING POINT

Brookland-Cayce opened the game with a Charpia-to-Keylin Roach pass that was good for 56 yards. Soon after came Taylor’s first rushing touchdown to open the scoring.

KEY PERFORMERS

Rasheed Taylor: The B-C running back had 142 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. He also caught a pass for 6 yards.

Tykeice Boages: The Bearcats defensive back picked off a Justin Allen pass at the goal line, stopping a potential Airport scoring drive in the second quarter.
