Channing Tindall gives decision update; set for official visit this weekend to SEC school

Channing Tindall gave another hint on when he might be announcing his college choice.

The Spring Valley linebacker told DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell he plans on making his announcement before he leaves for the U.S. Army All-American Game. The game is Jan. 6 in San Antonio and players arrive Dec. 31.

Tindall, a four-star recruit, is taking his official visit to Georgia this week.

“I’m about to commit pretty soon,” Tindall told The State last week at The Richland County Player of Year banquet.

Tindall’s top three in no order are Auburn, Georgia and South Carolina. He made an official visit to Auburn for the Iron Bowl. On Monday, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and linebackers coach Travis Williams stopped by Spring Valley and had an in-home visit.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and linebackers coach Glen Schumann had an in-home visit on Tuesday. Tindall visited UGA twice for games.

Tindall went to dinner with South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp and linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler a couple of weeks ago, and the Gamecocks are trying to get him to take an official visit. He has been to USC on many occasions including several games this season.

“Since football season has ended, it has been busy,” Tindall said. “But it is good getting one on one time with the coaches and hearing what they have to say.”

On Thursday, it was announced that Tindall is a finalist for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl’s “Doc” Blanchard Award. The honor is given to a player on the East team who exhibit prowess in the classroom and the field.

The other finalists are linebackers Dax Hollifield (Shelby, NC) and Shayne Simon (St. Peter’s Prep) and quarterback Phillip Jurkovec (Pine-Richland).

Tindall finished with 190 tackles and nine sacks this season. The SC Mr. Football finalist is sitting out this week’s Shrine Bowl to rest up his injured shoulder so he can play in the U.S. Army game.
