Richland 1 shuffles scrimmage plans as new stadium construction wraps up

With construction at stadium facilities not completed, the annual Richland One Sportsarama will be switching venues this season.

The Sportsarama will be held at Benedict College’s Charles Johnson Stadium on Aug. 11 beginning at 6 p.m. The eight-team jamboree, which is usually is held at Memorial Stadium, was planned to be held at District Stadium at Keenan but construction won’t be done until the end of the month at both Keenan and Memorial Stadiums.

Original plans were for Keenan and Memorial to be ready for Week 0 but schedules have been adjusted. Eau Claire’s opener will be at Lewisville on Aug. 16, while CAJ will open at Great Falls on Aug. 17. Columbia versus Keenan has been moved to Benedict College on Aug. 17.

Plans are for the facilities to be ready for games on Aug. 30-31 with CA Johnson hosting Fox Creek at Keenan on Aug. 30 . The first game at Memorial Stadium will be A.C. Flora against Columbia on Aug. 31. Eau Claire will host Wagener-Salley at Keenan on Aug. 31.

Renovations at Lower Richland Stadium will be done by the Diamond Hornets’ home opener against Carolina Forest on Aug. 24.
