A.C. Flora football snaps losing streak with win over Columbia
A.C. Flora snapped its’ losing streak in a big way.
Quarterback Matthew Jamison accounted for three touchdowns as the Falcons defeated Columbia, 45-12, on Thursday at Benedict College. It was the first win for second-year coach Collin Drafts and snapped the Falcons’ 13-game losing streak.
A.C. Flora went 0-10 last season and Drafts wouldn’t let his team wear decals on their helmets until they won a game this season. The Falcons began the year with losses to Beaufort and Union County.
““We weren’t afraid to talk about it,” Drafts said of the 0-10 season. “We called it remember the zero. When we show up to work every day and on step on the field on Friday nights, remember what we came from and what we went through. We use it as our fuel to keep on chopping and keep on hammering along. And we got it tonight. They did deserve to win a football game and here we are finally.”
Columbia scored on its first drive when Jo Jo Puch hit Jaylin Broadnax for a touchdown to make it 6-0. But Quincy Riley returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to give the Falcons a 7-6 lead. A.C. Flora made it 13-6 on Josh Heatly TD run and the Falcons never looked back.
Jamison threw a pair of TDs, including one to Riley, and also ran for a score.
Fox Creek 33, C.A. Johnson 6
Jatonious Butler ran for three touchdowns as Fox Creek moved to 2-0 on the season.
The game was the first one at Richland One’s new district stadium at Keenan. C.A. Johnson led 6-0 but the Predators scored the game’s final 33 points.
