Raymond Jennings will get another shot at being a head football coach.

The former Ridge View head coach and Lugoff-Elgin assistant has been named the coach at Darlington High School. Jennings replaces John Jones, who was 9-33 in four seasons.

Jennings coached at Ridge View from 2004-14 and went 55-76. His best season at Ridge View came in 2006 when he led the Blazers to the Class 4A Upper State championship game.

Jennings has been the defensive coordinator at Lugoff-Elgin since 2015. The Demons went 7-5 in 2017 and made it to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs. Lugoff-Elgin coach Matt Campbell isn’t sure who will take Jennings’ spot on the coaching staff.

Jennings inherits a Darlington program, which is coming of a 0-9 season. The Falcons are in one of the toughest Class 4A regions in the state, competing with the likes of state champion Myrtle Beach, Hartsville, North Myrtle Beach, Marlboro County and Wilson.
