Dollison chooses South Florida. Dutch Fork’s Hyatt signs with Tennessee.
It didn’t take Jeff Scott long to get a player from the Palmetto State for his first recruiting class.
Gray Collegiate receiver Omarion Dollison signed with Scott and South Florida on Wednesday during the first day of the early signing period.
Scott, a former Clemson assistant who became USF’s coach last week, extended an offer to Dollison Friday and he signed with Bulls less than a week later without taking a visit to the school. Dollison will enroll in January.
Dollison originally committed to Old Dominion but decommitted after Bobby Wilder, the Monarchs’ coach, resigned earlier this month. He also considered Cincinnati.
“Both South Florida and Cincinnati are good programs but I think South Florida is a better program for me to go to,” Dollison said. “With coach Scott getting the head coaching job, I feel like he is going to bring something strong. He talked to me every day since Friday. And I was first receiver he verbally offered. “
247Sports ranks Dollison as a three-star prospect and No. 26 overall in SC for Class of 2020.
Dollison spent his first three seasons at Irmo High School before transferring to Gray Collegiate this season. The speedy receiver had 86 catches for 1,621 yards and 22 touchdowns for the War Eagles, who made it to the Class 2A Upper State semifinals.
Dollison played in the Touchstone Energy Bowl last week and caught a 95-yard touchdown.
Other Midlands players sign
Dollison was one of several Midlands players to sign Wednesday on the first day of the early period. Dutch Fork’s Jalin Hyatt and Lugoff-Elgin’s Parker Clements were the highest ranked signees and took part in a ceremony Wednesday in Spartanburg where the duo will play in the Shrine Bowl on Saturday.
Hyatt signed with Tennessee and Clements is headed to Virginia Tech.
Hyatt, the fifth-ranked prospect in S.C. this season, committed to Tennessee on July 27, less than a month after decommiting from Virginia Tech. The senior caught 66 passes for 1,361 yards and 26 touchdowns, including the game-winning score to help Dutch Fork to its fourth straight Class 5A title.
Hyatt leaves Dutch Fork as the school’s career leader in receiving yards and touchdowns in addition to several single-game and single-season records.
Clements is a three-star prospect and ranked No. 22 in the state. He committed to the Hokies last month.
