SCISA roundup, scores: Heathwood Hall, Hammond pick up second wins of season

For the first time in more than a decade, Heathwood Hall’s football team is 2-0 to start the season.

The Highlanders led 9-7 going into the fourth quarter, but Lewis found Will Morris on a 10-yard pass to make it 16-7 with 9:46 left. Heathwood’s drive was extended after a roughing the punter call on Ben Lippen.

Ronnie Porter added a 4-yard run with 2:37 left to make it 23-7.

“We try to grind it out and move the sticks,” Heathwood coach Danny Lewis said. “

It is not a lot of fun sitting in the stands but our guys have bought into it and that is who we are.”

Ronnie Porter finished with 128 yards rushing and a TD and also had eight tackles on defense. His brother, Rondarius Porter, had three sacks.

Ben Lippen opened the scoring on Will Owens’ 50-yard run in the first quarter. Heathwood got on the board with a safety and then Lewis’ 10-yard run put the Highlanders up 9-7 with 1:58 left in the first quarter.
