Midlands high school football coach resigns, creating a second area job opening
The Midlands has its second head football coaching opening of the year.
Batesburg-Leesville coach Gary Adams has stepped down as head coach after five seasons, Lexington Three announced Thursday. Adams was an assistant at B-L for 11 years before being promoted to head coach.
“Lexington Three thanks coach Adams for his service and commitment to the Batesburg-Leesville community and will immediately begin the process of finding a replacement coach,” Lexington three announced in a statement.
Adams played linebacker, safety and tight end at B-L and was a member of the Panthers’ state title team in 1995. He went on to play at Liberty University.
As a head coach, Adams was 26-25 in his five seasons and his best year was in 2019 when the Panthers went 8-5. Batesburg-Leesville went 3-4 this season, finished fourth in Region 3-2A and had missed some games because of COVID-19. The Panthers lost in the first round of the playoffs.
The B-L opening is the second in the Midlands. Newberry football coach Phil Strickland announced in the summer he was retiring after the end of the season. The Bulldogs play Christ Church in the third round of the playoffs on Friday. So far, there are eight openings around the state.
