Former Westwood football coach Matt Quinn has found another coaching opportunity.

Quinn will be the next coach at North Augusta on Tuesday. Quinn replaces Jim Bob Bryant, who officially resigned last month but was on administrative leave since October. Bryant spent two seasons at North Augusta and won a region championship in 2020.

Quinn announced on Jan. 27 that he was leaving Westwood but didn’t see what opportunity he would be taking.

“At this time, I cannot announce my next steps. I hope you can respect my privacy through this tough decision and crazy time. I will always love the kids of Westwood! #WingsUpForever,” Quinn posted on Twitter.

Quinn will start his new job at North Augusta next week.

Quinn has been at Westwood for two different stints, spending the last three years as Redhawks’ head coach. Westwood shared the Region 4-4A championship this year with Irmo and A.C. Flora. It was the school’s first region title in football. Quinn was named region coach of the year and the school hosted a playoff game for the first time in six years.

The school held a banner ceremony for the region championship last month.

Quinn was Westwood’s offensive coordinator in 2016 before leaving to take the head coaching job at Union Pines in North Carolina. He was 11-11 in two seasons at Union Pines and led the school to its first winning season in 10 years when it went 6-5 in 2017.

Before Westwood, Quinn spent two seasons as an assistant at Darlington and two years at Westside High School.

Westwood athletic director Jason Powell, who is retiring at the end of the year, said they hope to have a new coach to take before the school board by early March. A new athletic director will likely be hired before the new coach.

In addition to Westwood, the remaining openings in the Midlands are Airport and Dreher.
