Football roundup: Brookland-Cayce, Chapin, Blythewood notch victories
At Winnsboro, Reed Charpia came off the bench to throw two touchdowns as Brookland-Cayce rallied to defeat Fairfield Central 36-24 on Friday night in high school football action.
Charpia came in the game in the second half for starter Kozi Brown, who left with cramps.
It was the second straight year the Bearcats defeated the Griffins in the opener.
Fairfield Central jumped to a 12-0 in the first quarter and then led 24-22 on Stanley McManus’ third touchdown run in the third quarter.
But Charpia threw his second touchdown of the game in the third and Charles Balkom had a touchdown late in the fourth to seal it.
Clinton 30, A.C. Flora 29 (OT)
At Clinton, Vee Thompson scored on a TD run, and Charlie Craven hit Jasper Fuller on the two-point conversion to give Clinton an overtime victory over A.C. Flora.
A.C. Flora trailed 22-14 late in the fourth quarter before Brendan Greene hit Corey Riley on a 6-yard pass to get the Eagles within 22-20 with 2:31 left. Greene then hit Phillip Holliday for the two-point conversion to tie it at 22.
Clinton had a chance to win in regulation, but Lane Botkin picked off a pass in the end zone at the end of regulation.
In overtime, A.C. Flora got the ball first and Clarence Watson scored on a 1-yard run to give A.C. Flora a 29-22 lead.
Chapin 49, Columbia 0
Logan Bailey ran for three touchdowns and threw for two in Chapin’s season-opening victory.
Bailey was 19-of-22 for 259 yards in the air and also rushed nine times for 13 yards as the Eagles scored 43 of their 49 points in the first half.
Kale Rhame led Chapin with seven catches for 101 yards and a TD. Evan Estridge caught four passes for 43 yards.
Ben Lippen 47, Orangeburg Prep 6
Cole Owens rushed for two touchdowns, and Patrick McClure threw for a score and ran for one in Ben Lippen’s season-opening win.
Garrison Moore returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
Ben Lippen had 295 yards of total offense and 406 yards on special teams.
Ben Lippen’s defense held Orangeburg Prep to 54 yards of offense.
Blythewood 27, Rock Hill 13
At Rock Hill, Derambez Drinkard had a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in Blythewood’s win on the road.
Bengals quarterback Davis Israel was 11-of-17 for 148 yards through the air and also rushed for a touchdown in the win.
