Notebook: Six to enter Chapin Hall this weekend
Six former players and coaches will be part of the second annual Chapin Hall of Fame this weekend.
This year’s class consists of coach Paul Shealy, Roger Woolbright, Pam Bostain, Andy “Beef” Williams, Mike Slice and Jerry Bowers. Woolbright joins father Cecil and brother Marty Woolbright, who were inducted last year.
The 1972 Chapin girls basketball state title team and 1982 state champion baseball squad also will be honored during the weekend’s festivities. The inductees will be honored during halftime of Friday’s game against Swansea. The hall of fame banquet will take place Saturday at the school’s cafeteria from 6-9 p.m.

Shuler moves up in 247Sports rankings; Woods in latest Rivals rankings
Devontae Shuler was upgraded to a five star ranking and was No. 22 in the 247Sports’ rankings for the Class of 2017 released this week.
Shuler recently transferred from Irmo to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. He is the highest ranked player from South Carolina in the Class of 2017.
Hammond’s Seventh Woods was No. 36 on Rivals’ Top 150 for the Class of 2016 released Wednesday.
Realignment news
Six schools have submitted appeals regarding the 2016-18 South Carolina High School realignment proposal.
The proposal, released last month, will have five classifications beginning next year. Schools had the option to file an appeal to either move up or down but needed to get letters of support from the schools affected by their move.
Schools have until next week to file an appeal, and all appeals will be heard before the SCHSL executive committee Sept. 17.
Former Gamecock Newton joins WACH high school broadcasts
Former South Carolina standout Syvelle Newton will be part of WACH Fox’s Friday night football broadcasts starting with this week’s game between Northwestern and Irmo.
Newton will handle color analyst duties alongside play-by-play man Corey Miller and replaces Jim Baxter, whose duties conflicted with his Friday night scoreboard show on 107.5.
The former Gamecock QB also will appear weekly with Miller in WACH Fox’s Chalk Talk segment Monday nights.
American Legion World Series champs to be honored
The Chapin-Newberry legion baseball team will be honored at 4 p.m. Sunday in a ceremony at Memorial Park in Newberry.
C-N became the first team from South Carolina since 1936 to win the American Legion World Series when it defeated Louisiana 9-2 last month in Shelby, N.C. Players and coaches will be saluted by leaders from Newberry and Chapin, plus the national championship trophy and banners will be displayed.
On Monday, the team will be in the Chapin Labor Day Parade, riding with American Legion members and World War II veterans. The parade starts at 9:30 am.
Recruiting
Dutch Fork basketball player Jordan Davis picked up offers from Cincinnati and East Carolina over the weekend. Davis, a 6-foot-2 junior, averaged 17.7 points a game last season.
Spring Valley’s Jordan Bruner will visit Yale this weekend, according to SportsTalk’s Phil Kornblut. According to Kornblut, his other visits include Georgia on Sept. 18, Tennessee on Oct. 2 and Clemson on Oct. 9.
North Carolina Central was the latest to offer Blythewood cornerback Khris Pam. The senior had an interception in Friday’s win over Ridge View.
