Midlands roundup: Hammond snaps Wilson Hall’s home win streak
At Sumter, Malik Bennett and Graham Smith each rushed for touchdowns as Hammond defeated Wilson Hall 14-7 on Friday.
The win snapped the Barons’ 19-game home winning streak, which dated to 2012.
Bennett finished with 96 yards rushing. Smith was 11-of-19 for 103 yards in the air.
The Skyhawks’ defense also forced three turnovers.
Chapin 57, Swansea 50 (suspended, 4th quarter)
At Chapin, Swansea and Chapin will have to finish up Saturday at 1 p.m. after heavy rain moved in Friday night.
Swansea will have the ball with 2:38 left in the fourth when the game resumes. The game was stopped at 10:17 p.m. and both teams tried to wait out the storm before it was announced at 1 a.m. that the two teams will finish Saturday.
The game was tied 29-29 going into the fourth quarter before the two teams combined for 49 fourth-quarter points.
Lower Richland 20, Orangeburg-Wilkinson 19
At Columbia, TeVaughn Hughes threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns as the Diamond Hornets won their second straight game.
Lower Richland led 20-6 at halftime but O-W scored with five minutes left to pull within 20-19 but missed the extra point.
LR receiver Larry Collins had five catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Fred Cunningham had 119 yards of total offense and a touchdown.
Spring Valley 28, Laurens 7
At Columbia, Ty’Juan Fulton rushed for 169 yards on 11 carries for Spring Valley.
The game was called with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter because of heavy rain.
Kadarius Bunch added 75 yards on the ground for the Vikings (2-0), who rushed for 270 yards in the game.
River Bluff 49, Columbia 0
At Lexington, Brandon Tillmon rushed for 96 yards and four touchdowns and was 7-of-11 passing for 94 yards for River Bluff.
Austin Pollard added two touchdowns for the Gators, who outgained Columbia 361-50.
Porter-Gaud 35, Cardinal Newman 28 (OT)
At Columbia, Dante Smith scored on a 10-yard run to give Porter-Gaud the come-from-behind victory.
Porter-Gaud trailed 28-14 in the fourth quarter before scoring twice, the second coming on Oliver Michaud 3-yard run to tie it at 28. Michaud was 13-of-20 passing for 195 yards.
Sean Williams and Nicky Winterstein each went over 100 yards on the ground for Cardinal Newman. Williams had 116 yards, including a 77-yard run to give Cardinal Newman a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Winterstein rushed for 106 and a touchdown.
North Central 28, East Clarendon 0
At Turbeville, Cedric Cunningham rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns as North Central improved to 3-0.
DaShon Bethea had a 90-yard touchdown on a blocked field goal, and North Central forced five fumbles.
Hartsville 42, Camden 7
At Hartsville, Tiyon Evans rushed for 253 yards and three touchdowns in the Red Foxes’ victory.
Jalen Jacobs added 71 yards for Hartsville, which rushed for 425 yards in the game.
Devin Beckley led Camden with 176 yards passing.
Gilbert 56, Pelion 6
At Pelion, Dai Coleman-Scott rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns, and Catriez Scott added two TD runs in Gilbert’s victory.
Scott finished with 56 yards, as Gilbert outgained Pelion 323-142.
Lancaster 35, Richland Northeast 14
At Lancaster, Ant Foster rushed for 205 yards and two second-half touchdowns in Lancaster’s win over the Cavaliers.
Lancaster, which led 7-6 at halftime, scored 21 points in the third quarter to break open the game. Farrika Grier added 136 yards on the ground for Lancaster.
RNE’s lone score came on a pass play from Aloysisus Jackson to Matthew Anderson to get the Cavs within 7-6 in the second quarter.
Ben Lippen 64, Heathwood Hall 40
At Ben Lippen, Patrick McClure threw 246 yards, four touchdowns and ran for another in the victory.
Cole Owens ran for a score and returned a kickoff for TD for Ben Lippen, which had 439 yards of offense.
Westwood 42, Clover 7
At Blythewood, Rudy Mitchell rushed for two touchdowns, and Jalen Smith threw for 132 yards and a TD as Westwood moved to 3-0.
The game was marred by an injury to Westwood’s Mark Mickens, who was carted off the field after making a tackle. Both teams huddled at midfield in prayer for Mickens. There has been no word on the extend of his injury
