Not far from where his father became a local legend, Stephen Davis Jr. looked every bit a chip off the old block.

The Dutch Fork two-way star, who recently de-committed from his dad’s alma mater, Auburn, and has South Carolina and Clemson among his finalists, rushed 16 times for 202 yards and totaled seven touchdowns in a 54-34 victory over Boiling Springs. Starting kickoff was delayed 30 minutes due to lightning.

The Silver Foxes scored touchdowns on five of their six second-half possessions, letting the clock run out during their final drive on the Bulldogs’ 1. Quarterback Cole Douglas completed 8 of 15 passing for 328 yards, including 253 in the second half. Bulldog tailback Brendon Robinson rushed 19 times for 139 yards.

Davis was only part of Dutch Fork’s dominant third quarter that turned the tide on a 27-20 halftime deficit.

Davis bolted up the middle and ran untouched on his team’s second play from scrimmage in the third, going 65 yards for a touchdown. On the next possession, Davis ran for a 2-yard touchdown set up by a 68-yard completion from Douglas to Bobby Irby. Dutch Fork made it 3-for-3 in the third for 41-27 lead when Douglas hit Austin Connor in stride for a 63-yard touchdown.

After three consecutive three-and-outs, the Bulldogs converted a fourth-and-8 before Mason Streater completed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Travalas Massey.

The Silver Foxes scored on their fourth-consecutive possession of the second half with a 65-yard drive that culminated in Davis’ sixth rushing touchdown, a three-yarder, with 9:02 left for a 47-34 advantage. The Bulldogs had a chance to regain good field possession and try to get back close when Dutch Fork began a possession from its own 7 midway through the fourth quarter.

On the first play, however, Douglas went deep for 45 yards Irby. Three plays later, on third-and-12, Davis took a delayed screen pass 50 yards for his seventh touchdown and first through the air.

Boiling Springs took a 12-0 lead after their first two possessions of the night.
