Midlands roundup: Chapin, Airport remain unbeaten

At Cayce, Logan Bailey threw for three TDs, including a 13-yard, go-ahead TD to Evan Estridge in the fourth quarter, as Chapin defeated Brookland-Cayce 35-25 on Friday.

Chapin improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2009.

Chapin trailed 25-24 going into the fourth quarter, but scored the final 11 points.

Bailey finished 19-of-34 for 246 yards and three TDs. He also rushed for 58 yards and a TD to give him 26 total TDs for the year.

Estridge caught eight passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns, while Joe Flowers hauled in a team-high nine catches for 101 yards.

Justice Mills caught seven passes for 132 yards to lead B-C, which played quarterbacks Kozie Brown and Reed Charpia. Charpia finished 8-of-16 for 137 yards.

A.C. Flora 28, Ninety Six 26

At Columbia, Brendan Greene was 11-of-16 for 121 yards and three TD passes as A.C. Flora held off Ninety Six.

Greene’s third TD pass, a 22-yarder to Thomas Hollinsgworth, put the Falcons up 28-20 in the third quarter. Ninety Six answered in the fourth quarter as C.J. White hit Christopher Booker on an 18-yard pass to cut the lead to 28-26.

But A.C. Flora stopped Ninety Six’s two-point conversion and was able to hold on for the victory.

Hollingsworth caught five passes for 59 yards and two TDs. Donald Gist led A.C. Flora with 72 yards rushing and Shawn Geiger had 70 yards and a TD.

River Bluff 42, Crescent 6

At Lexington, Brandon Tillmon ran for three touchdowns and threw for another, all in the first half, in the Gators’ victory.

Tillmon finished 5-of-9 pass for 129 yards and also rushed for 35 yards. River Bluff outgained Crescent 307-147.

Airport 16, Richland Northeast 0

At Lexington, Brett Burnett threw a TD, and Keyron Richardson rushed for a TD as the Eagles notched their second straight shutout.

The Eagles are 4-0 for the first time since 2011.

Burnett was 8-of-16 for 55 yards and a TD, and Josh Tucker was 6-of-10 for 111 yards. Six different Airport receivers caught a pass in the game.

RNE quarterback Aloysius Jackson threw for 156 yards and also rushed for 103.

White Knoll 35, Swansea 7

At Swansea, Quarterback Calev Grubbs accounted for three touchdowns and running back Maurice Jones rushed for 159 yards and two TDs for White Knoll.

Grubbs was 4-of-6 through the air for 112 yards and a TD and also rushed for two scores for the Timberwolves, who improved to 3-1.

Chance Walker had Swansea’s only TD.

Irmo 21, Spring Valley 20

At Spring Valley, Jeffrey Tharp scored on a 13-yard run, and Mason Smith hit Ronnie Jamison on a two-point conversion early in the fourth quarter to help Irmo to its first victory of the year.

Spring Valley cut it to 21-20 on Ty’Juan Fulton’s TD run, but Irmo blocked the extra-point attempt.

Blythewood 55, Clover 22

At Clover, David Israel threw for three touchdowns, and Kyle Wright rushed for three scores in Blythewood’s victory.

The Bengals did most of their damage in the first half as they led 35-8 at halftime. Israel was 13-of-20 for 176 yards, while Wright rushed for 64 yards on just four carries. Sekwan Jenkins had an 82-yard interception return in the first half for Blythewood.

Batesburg-Leesville 40, Ridge Spring Monetta 20

At Batesburg-Leesville, Terrence Wilson rushed for 171 yards and four TDs, including a 63-yarder, in B-L’s victory.

Montez Merritt had two catches for 82 yards and a TD, and Mikal Hartley had a 52-yard fumble return for a score.

Cardinal Newman 35, Augusta Christian 12

At Augusta, Tarence Tyler Jr. rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns as Cardinal Newman snapped a two-game losing streak.

The Cards’ defense scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Parker Dubois had a 51-yard interception return and Shane O’Connor had a 30-yard INT return. Dubois also had a 44-yard TD run.

Estill 30, Gray Collegiate 24

At Estill, Justin Solomon rushed for two touchdowns and threw another to lead Estill to a win over Gray Collegiate.

Solomon’s 35-yard run with six minutes left was the game-winner.

GCA was led by Bryce Fields, who completed 17 of 28 passes for 165 yards and three scores. Erick Harris led the War Eagles with 55 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Chester 43, Lower Richland 14

At Chester, running back Pha-Leak Brown rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Lower Richland.

Chester QB Malik Williams also threw for 156 yards and rushed for 131 yards and accounted for two scores.

Lower Richland QB tevaugh Higgins was 19-of-34 for 265 yards passing with two TDs, both to receiver Larry Collins. Collins finished with 11 catches for 190 yards.

Keenan 44, Columbia 0

At Benedict College, Majerle Poole threw four touchdowns and ran for another as Keenan improved to 3-2 on the season.

Poole was 13-of-18 passing for 194 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for 38 yards and a score. Keenan running back Tyrieck Davis-Newton led the Raiders with 75 yards on the ground.

Keenan outgained Columbia 413-70.
