ROUNDUP: Blythewood holds off South Florence

At Blythewood, Quarterback David Israel accounted for 227 yards of offense and three touchdowns as Blythewood held on to beat South Florence 38-34 on Thursday at District Two Stadium.

The Bengals led 38-20 with four minutes left in the third quarter before the Bruins mounted a comeback. South cut the lead to 38-34 on Lindsey Robinson’s touchdown pass to Ty King with 8:06 left.

South Florence was going to get a chance for game-winning drive but fumbled a punt and the Bengals recovered with 1:30 and ran out the clock.

Osei Thomas rushed for 80 yards and a TD for Blythewood, and Derambez Drinkard caught a TD and ran back a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown.

Robinson threw for 201 yards and a TD for South, and Michael Grimsley rushed for 198 yards and two scores.

Lexington 41, Lugoff-Elgin 6

At Lexington, running back Slade Carroll scored two touchdowns and went over 3,000-yard mark for his career in the Wildcats’ win over the Demons.

Carroll finished with 158 yards on 20 carries for the Wildcats.

Wildcats’ quarterback Brandon Blake threw a touchdown pass to Jayson Hopper and also rushed for a score as Lexington improved to 5-1 on the season.

Midland Valley 36, Gilbert 23

At Gilbert, Dre’Kwon Carr rushed for 249 yards and two touchdowns and Midland Valley broke a 16-16 with 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Carr’s 17-yard run in the first minute of the fourth quarter gave the Mustangs a 22-16 lead.

Gilbert quarterback Tyler Thomas was 17-of-36 for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Malik Bright hauled in eight of those passes for 107 yards and two scores.

Hammond 36, Laurence Manning 0

At Columbia, Graham Smith threw three touchdown passes and Sean Hutchinson kicked three first-half field goals as Hammond extended its winning streak to 19 games.

Smith’s touchdowns went to three difference receivers – Lucas Prickett, Jack Theodore and Michael Borden.

Laurence Manning entered the game with giving up just 40 points on the season.

Westwood 47, West Florence 7

At Florence, Rudy Mitchell rushed for 191 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half, as Westwood improved to 5-1 on the season.

As a team, Westwood rushed for 370 yards in the game.

Redhawks quarterback Jalen Smith added a 41-yard TD pass to Montre Miller and Tyrel Gallman had a touchdown run.

Ben Lippen 35, Spartanburg Christian 14

At Columbia, Patrick McClure threw three touchdowns and ran for another as the Falcons snapped a three-game losing streak.

Cole Owens caught two of McClure’s three touchdown passes.
