ROUNDUP: Wilson sets TD record in Batesburg-Leesville win over Crescent
At Iva, Terrence Wilson scored four times and became the school’s all-time touchdown leader in Batesburg-Leesville’s 40-13 victory over Crescent on Friday.
Wilson’s four TDs give him 75 for his career, breaking Deveto Johnson’s mark of 73. The senior tailback finished with 233 yards rushing against Crescent and had TD runs of 85 and 70 yards.
Receiver Jaquarius Hair had seven catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns for B-L. As a team, the Panthers’ two quarterbacks threw for 171 yards.
Dreher 36, Lower Richland 16
At Lower Richland, quarterback Avery Armstrong and running Jay Washington each rushed for two touchdowns as the Blue Devils won their region opener.
Earl Preddy had Dreher’s other score and the Blue Devils finished with 350 yards rushing.
Lower Richland standout receiver Larry Collins left the game with a sprain knee in the second quarter.
Aiken 27, Brookland-Cayce 21 (3 OT)
At Aiken, Bryson Jones scored on an 11-yard run in the third overtime as Aiken won its first region game in four years.
Jones finished with 131 yards rushing and two scores and also was 7-for-15 passing for 90 yards.
Brookland-Cayce trailed 14-7 heading in the fourth quarter before Reed Charpia hit Justice Mills on a 29-yard touchdown pass to tie it with 10:31 left.
The Bearcats scored in the first overtime on A.J. Brown’s 2-yard run, but Aiken answered with Jeremiah Green’s 5-yard TD run to tie it at 21. B-C had a chance to win it in the second overtime but missed a field goal.
Brown finished with 85 yards rushing and Kozie Brown threw for 66 yards and a TD pass.
North Augusta 24, Ridge View 18
At North Augusta, Ridge View backup quarterback Tre’ High put a scare into North Augusta, but the Yellow Jackets (5-1) held on in the final minute.
Ridge View trailed 24-6 in the fourth quarter but rallied behind High, who came in for the injured D’Marco Zeigler. High led the Blazers to a pair of scoring drives, and Shemar Hinson’s 1-yard run got Ridge View within 24-18 with 1:33 left.
Ridge View recovered the ensuing onside kick and drove to the North Augusta 22 but fumbled on fourth down to end the game. High finished with 51 yards rushing and also threw for 57.
Tavian Price rushed for 66 yards and two TDs for North Augusta.
Newberry 28, Keenan 7
At Newberry, Chris Wadsworth and Yafari Werts each rushed for more than 100 yards in the Bulldogs’ win over Keenan.
Wadsworth finished with 107 yards and a TD, while Werts added 104 and two TDs, including a 69-yard run in the third quarter to put Newberry up 21-7.
Majerle Poole threw for 123 yards in the loss for Keenan.
Wilson Hall 27, Cardinal Newman 20
At Sumter, McLendon Sears scored on a 1-yard run with 1:50 left in the third quarter and Wilson Hall had a late goal-line stand in the win over Cardinal Newman.
The Cardinals were stopped on fourth-and-goal on the next to the last play of the game.
Nicky Winterstein caught a TD and also had a two-yard touchdown run for Cardinal Newman. Terence Tyler also added a 12-yard TD run, which put the Cards up 7-0 in the first quarter.
