Handful of games still scheduled
While most of the football games involving Midlands teams are postponed this week, there will be at least some that will go on as scheduled Friday.
As of Wednesday, five games are scheduled to be played Friday – Batesburg-Leesville at Ninety Six, Gray Collegiate at Great Falls, Indian Land at Mid-Carolina, Newberry at Fairfield Central and North Central at Andrew Jackson.
Games postponed Friday likely will take place Monday or Tuesday, assuming teams can get practices in over the weekend. Eau Claire at Keenan and Columbia at Pelion will be moved to Nov. 6 as Class 2A schools were allowed to start the playoffs a week later because there already was an off week between the lower/upper state championships and the state championships.
A South Carolina High School League spokesperson said Wednesday there are no plans to push back games a week for the other classifications.
The South Carolina Independent Schools Association told its teams if they were unable to play this week that the game could be dropped and not rescheduled. If that happens, SCISA would determine seedings based on one less region game. The playoff determination system would be released at a later date.
SCISA swim meet still on for Saturday
The SCISA state swimming meet will go on as scheduled this weekend in Augusta, Ga.
The SCHSL announced Tuesday the swimming state championships to be held on Saturday at South Carolina will be moved to Oct. 17 because the pool at USC is closed and not operational.
Elite Camps
The South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association postponed its elite camps this weekend because of the flooding in the Midlands.
The boys camps will be held Oct. 17 at Keenan, while the girls camp is Oct. 18 at Ridge View. The camps will begin at 9 a.m. each day.
Recruiting
Hammond sophomore girls basketball player Ahlea Myers picked up an offer from Appalachian State this week.
Myers, 5-foot-5, also has offers from Richmond and UNC Wilmington. She averaged 13 points a game last season.
