Roundup: Chapin, Lexington clinch region titles

At Camden, Logan Bailey threw for five touchdown passes as Chapin their second Region 4-3A title in three years with a 42-35 win over Camden on Friday.

Bailey passed for 282 yards, while also rushing for 60 yards and a touchdown. Joe Flowers also scored on a run for Chapin (9-0).

The region title is the 13th overall for Chapin, which also got 75 rushing yards from Ben Fischer.

Lexington 31, Aiken 21

At Aiken, Daquan Wells had a pair of interceptions, including one for a touchdown, as the Wildcats wrapped up the Region 5-4A championship.

Slade Carroll rushed for 110 yards and Ervin Green added 98 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Donny Baker, who came in for an injured Brandon Blake in the second half, threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Oscar Ferguson in the third quarter to give Lexington a 17-14 lead.

Richland Northeast 32, Lower Richland 28

At Lower Richland, Barry Moorer scored on a touchdown run with 5:58 left as RNE clinched its first playoff berth since 2011 with the victory.

The Cavaliers can finish second in Region 4-3A with a win next week against Dreher.

North Augusta 26, Irmo 14

At Irmo, Rashad Byrd ran for two touchdowns and caught a TD pass in the win over Irmo.

NA quarterback Landon Washington threw for 297 yards in the victory.

Mason Smith threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns for Irmo.

Hammond 38, Heathwood Hall 0

At Hammond, Graham Smith threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns, and Malik Bennett had 167 all-prupose yards and two scores as the Skyhawks won their 22nd straight game.

Hammond finishes the regular season at 9-0 and has given up one TD or less in eight of those games. Jack Theodore had six catches for 60 yards.

Blythewood 59, Lugoff-Elgin 21

At Blythewood, Osei Thomas rushed for 245 yards and three touchdowns as the Bengals picked up their first region win.

Blythewood QB David Israel was 7-of-12 for 129 yards and two touchdown passes.

Roderick Burton rushed for 104 yards and a TD for L-E.

Swansea 49, Gilbert 40

At Gilbert, Chance Walker and Quaveon Cannon each rushed for more than 300 yards in the win over Gilbert.

Walker had 340 yards and three touchdowns, and Cannon added 314 and three TDs. Walker’s 83-yard run put Swansea up 35-33 with 1:33 left in the third quarter.

Fairfield Central 35, Mid-Carolina 0

At Prosperity, the Griffins scored three touchdowns on defense and special teams to secure the No. 2 seed in the Class 2A Division I upper state playoffs.

Cam Roseberry recovered for a TD, Zhivago Hearndon returned a punt for a TD and Jeff Russell had an interception returned for a score.

Gray Collegiate 19, Cardinal Newman 7

At Cardinal Newman, Gray Collegiate won the final game at George Watson Field.

Erick Harris led the way with 139 yards rushing and a touchdown. Bryce Fields completed 12-of-17 for 145 yards and two scores.

Defensively, GCA picked off four passes. Chylon Thomas had two while Brandon Carroway and Tyler Rhodes each added one.

GCA finishes the season with a 5-5 record.

Seth Ham rushed for 100 yards and a TD for Cardinal Newman, which begins the SCISA 3A playoffs next week

Ben Lippen 49, Augusta Christian 18

At Columbia, Patrick McClure threw six touchdown passes as Ben Lippen won its regular-season finale.

Cole Owens had three TD grabs, and Mark Rew had two.

Ben Lippen will begin the SCISA 3A playoffs next week.
