Blythewood blows past Ridge View
Blythewood took the ball on the opening possession against Ridge View on Friday night, and promptly fumbled the ball away.
The Bengals spent the rest of the game making up for that mistake, hitting the end zone with a vengeance in a 63-12 victory over District 2 Stadium housemate and Region 4-4A rival Ridge View.
Blythewood quarterback David Isreal opened the scoring on a 5-yard TD run. Later, Isreal lateraled to Timel Benton on the right side, and Benton fired a 40-yard TD pass to Daquan Patten to put the Bengals (6-3, 2-2) up 14-0 late in the second quarter.
Isreal found Derambez Drinkard for an 11-yard TD pass, then Kyle Wright burst in for rushing touchdowns from 49 and 62 yards out for a 35-0 Blythewood lead at the half.
Blythewood went up 42-0 on a 36-yard Jordyn Adams TD run early in the third quarter.
Ridge View (5-6, 2-3) finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter with a 63-yard Ali Kelley touchdown run. Later, Tre High found Bernard porter for the Blazers’ only other score of the game.
Osei Thomas scored twice, and quarterback Timel Benton found Kenny Benton for a 77-yard pass play to seal the game for the Bengals, who finish the regular season at Spring Valley next week.
TURNING POINT
After Ridge View’s Garland Hanton Jr. scooped up the loose ball after the first snap of the game, the Blythewood defense pushed the Blazers backward. The Bengals then took the punt at their own 30 and drove 70 yards on 11 plays for the first score of the game. Isreal rumbled in from 5 yards out.

THEY SAID IT
“We’ve got a lot of kids who can be successful, and we’ve got to find ways to keep those guys engaged. We’re in a rebuilding project, we know it isn’t going to happen overnight, but we’ve got to find creative ways to let those guys know that the season’s not over.” – Ridge View head coach Perry Parks
“We played four quarters. I think that’s the first time all year we played four quarters. The defense played great, the return teams played great, the offense played great. It was a nice way to geta win. We’ve got another one and it’s for second place in the region, so it’s pretty exciting.” – Blythewood head coach Dan Morgan
“The O-line blocked very good today, you couldn’t have asked them to do a better job (At Spring Valley next week, a make-up game left over from area flooding a month ago) We’re going to be the only teams playing, and we’re going to give people a show.” – Blythewood running back Osei Thomas
