Dorman scored early, often and in a number of ways in routing Dutch Fork 49-19 Friday night in the second round of the Class 4A, Division I playoffs.

The Cavaliers scored on all five first-half possessions and had 294 yards of offense in the first half. They spotted the Silver Foxes an early 7-0 lead, but ran off 49 unanswered points to avenge a 38-35 regular season loss.

It was the worst loss of the season for Dutch Fork (9-4). The Silver Foxes had made three straight state championship game appearances, but never found an answer to the Cavaliers attack.

Dutch Fork finished with 257 yards of offense, but much of that came after the outcome was decided. Dorman finished with 451 yards of offense.

Dorman (10-3) will travel to Byrnes, a 35-14 winner over Sumter, next Friday in the state semifinals.

TURNING POINT

Dutch Fork scored on the third play of the game – a 65-yard run by Austin Connor - but the Cavaliers scored on five straight possessions to start the rout. The biggest haymaker came on a 51-yard touchdown pass from Collin Hill to Tyrek Long to make it 28-7 with 6:30 remaining in half.

KEY PERFORMERS

Shanard Bain: The senior running back scored three touchdowns - 1, 9 and 16 yards - and ran for 168 yards on 25 attempts. He helped the Cavaliers to hold a 27:53 to 20:07 in time of possession.

Collin Hill: The Shrine Bowl quarterback threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns. He had a 23-yarder to Diquan Green and 51 yards to Tyrek Long.

Austin Connor: The junior wide receiver accounted for 120 yards of the 257 yards of total offense for the Silver Foxes. He scored on a 65-yard scoring run as well.

KEY NUMBERS

18: Dutch Fork had 99 yards of total offense at the half but 81 of those came on two plays. The other 19 plays of first half netted 18 yards.

THEY SAID IT

“They mixed up their defense a little bit and our O-Line couldn’t handle it. If we can’t run the ball, we don’t stand a chance. When we could run it, we didn’t have any other alternatives.” – Dutch Fork coach Tom Knotts

“I told the kids before the game we couldn’t leave anything in the locker room. They played well. Dutch Fork had some things go bad and bounced our way and the next thing you know momentum was on our side.” – Dorman coach Dave Gutshall
