Piece of Super Bowl history coming to Lower Richland
Former Lower Richland standout Jonathan Goodwin will present his NFL Golden football to his alma mater Friday.
The ceremony will take place between the Lower Richland girls and boys basketball games against Keenan.
As part of the nationwide Super Bowl 50 celebration, the NFL started the Super Bowl High School Honor Roll program to acknowledge schools and communities that have directly influenced Super Bowl history and impacted the game for the better. More than 2,000 high schools and roughly 3,000 players and coaches will be recognized this season.
Goodwin, a fifth-round draft pick, played 13 seasons as an offensive lineman in the NFL for the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints from 2002-2014. He was a member of the Saints’ Super Bowl champion squad in 2009.
Wrestling
Dutch Fork wrestling will host its Silver Fox Invitational Friday and Saturday.
The teams competing in the event include Ashley Ridge, Boiling Springs, Westwood, Lugoff-Elgin, Nation Ford, Chapin, Irmo, River Bluff, Columbia, Richland Northeast, Spring Valley, Gilbert, Blythewood, Dreher and Brookland-Cayce
Former coach B.D. Laprad will be inducted into the Dutch Fork Wrestling Hall of Fame on Saturday before the championships.
The event begins Friday at 7:30 p.m. with the quarterfinals. Saturday’s action starts at 9:30 a.m. with the finals set for 2:15 p.m.
