Joyner leads Fort Dorchester to first state Class 4A title

Fort Dorchester quarterback Dakereon Joyner threw for 303 yards and three touchdowns as the Patriots won their first-ever Class 4A Division I state championship with a 59-31 victory over Dorman on Saturday.

Datron James ran for 137 yards rushing and three TDs for the Patriots (15-0). Diondre Champaigne had 129 yards receiving as Fort Dorchester finished with 537 yards of total offense. Joyner, a sophomore, also ran for a TD.

Fort Dorchester took control with two touchdowns in the final minute of the first half. James scored on a 2-yard run with 55 seconds remaining, then William Shaw intercepted a pass with 33 seconds left, leading to James' 4-yard scoring run and a 31-17 lead.

Collin Hill led Dorman (11-4) with 297 yards passing and three touchdowns for Dorman.
