NOTEBOOK: Lower Richland football coaching search continues

Lower Richland’s search for a new football coach will last a little longer.

Richland 1 athletics director Bob Matz said Tuesday the school is re-opening the position, and it’s unclear when a hire would be made. Spring football begins on May 2.

The job has been open since January when Darryl Page stepped down after three seasons. The Diamond Hornets went 2-8 this past season.

Ridge View assistant coach Derek Howard, as well as former NFL player and Lower Richland grad Jonathan Goodwin, were among those who interviewed for the job.

River Bluff boys soccer climbs USA Today poll

The River Bluff boys soccer team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest USA Today High School Soccer poll.

The Gators improved to 13-0 after their 2-1 win over Chapin on Tuesday. Dalton (Ga.) remained No. 1 in the poll, and Wando was No. 2.

CAJ’s Pickens, Bryant choose colleges

Two members of C.A. Johnson’s girls basketball Upper State runner-up team made college commitments over the weekend.

Kaitlin Pickens will play at Coker, which is coached by former South Carolina standout Shannon Johnson, and Dematrius Bryant committed to play at Claflin. Pickens was an all-state selection and played in the North-South All-Star game.

Lexington’s Larick signs

Lexington senior Josh Larick signed a letter of intent to play golf at Spartanburg Methodist.
