Dutch Fork’s Stephen Davis Jr. headed to Auburn
Stephen Davis Jr. is headed to Auburn after all.
The Dutch Fork standout announced Sunday he’ll be enrolling at Auburn, ending a long recruiting process. He committed to the Tigers in August 2014, but opened up his recruiting this past September, a few weeks before he tore his ACL.
“First I like to thank God for the continued blessings in all aspects of my life! Secondly I like to thank my parents and my siblings for always having my back for always having my back from my injury to my indecisiveness with deciding what’s best for me,” Davis posted on Twitter. “I like to thank my close friends, coaches, teachers and teammates that believed in me and stood by side.
“I’m happy to finally give you all what you are waiting for and announce that I will be attending Auburn University!”
Davis, the No. 7 ranked prospect in South Carolina and a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports, told Phil Kornblut he wanted to attend South Carolina as far back as Signing Day, but the Gamecocks wouldn’t take him.
So, Davis opted to go to Auburn, where his father Stephen Sr., was a standout before playing in the NFL. He is unsure if he’ll play offense or defense at Auburn, and will report July 31.
Davis’ senior season was cut short after suffering a torn ACL against Dorman in September. The 6-foot-4, 207-pounder played on the defensive side of the ball for most of his career, but was moved to running back early in his senior season.
Davis rushed for 204 yards and six touchdowns against Boiling Springs a week before his season-ending injury.
