Fallen teammate honored by River Bluff
After an emotional week, the River Bluff football team was ready to play its first football game but the weather had other plans.
Heavy rains moved through about 20 minutes before River Bluff’s game at Chapin and it postponed it until Saturday at 6 p.m. The Gators were playing the game a little more than a week after the death of teammate Lewis Simpkins, who collapsed and died at practice Aug. 11.
Both teams wore decals honoring Simpkins, and the River Bluff team gathered for a prayer at midfield, pointing to the sky in honor of Simpkins before the rain came down.
