Ben Lippen soars to victory over Heathwood Hall
After just six minutes last week, Ben Lippen coach Derek White got a chance to see his Falcons for a full four quarters.
Ben Lippen improved to 2-0 with a 50-14 victory over Heathwood Hall on Friday night. The Falcons were led by Bryce Thompson’s 272 all-purpose yards. The Virginia Tech commit rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown, while catching four passes for 65 yards.
“(Heathwood) has a great defense, I have to give a shout out to my offensive line,” Thompson said. “We had great play calling, and we’re just looking forward to our next game.”
Despite the lopsided score, White said there is room for improvement.
“It was a sloppy game tonight. We had some big plays, but we didn’t block very well,” White said. “It was not our cleanest or sharpest game. There are lots of moments where we can coach them up.”
Ben Lippen quarterback Patrick McClure had two touchdown passes and Chris Haynesworth added two rushing scores.
Heathwood Hall scored in the first quarter on a 99-yard kickoff return from Brandon McCullough, but the Highlanders’ offense struggled.
“(Ben Lippen) had us outmanned tonight,” Heathwood Hall coach Steve Victory said. “We haven’t seen that kind of speed yet this season. I told our guys we have 10 weeks left, just keep fighting and try to get better.”
Heathwood Hall quarterback Duffy Beal tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Mac Hardy late in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
