Winningham, Cornish lead Fireflies to victory
Dash Winningham hit two solo homers, and Gary Cornish allowed just three hits over six innings as the Columbia Fireflies defeated the Lexington Legends 8-0 on Thursday at Spirit Communications Park. The Fireflies swept the three-game series with the win.
Cornish (1-1) picked up the win after he struck out four and walked one.
Columbia started the scoring in the second when it put up three runs, including a triple by Gene Cone that scored Tim Tebow, who had two doubles in the game.
The Fireflies’ staff recorded their ninth shutout of the year.
Columbia outhit Lexington 12-4.
