Big hit eludes Fireflies in loss
The Columbia Fireflies stranded 12 runners on base Wednesday en route to a 4-1 loss to Greensboro at Spirit Communications Park.
The Fireflies’ lone run scored in the seventh inning when Luis Carpio was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Colby Woodmansee.
Columbia missed an additional scoring opportunity in the seventh, when Jacob Zanon struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
Fireflies starter Harol Gonzalez (5-7) took the loss in the South Atlantic League game after giving up three runs and six hits over seven innings.
Columbia and Greensboro meet again Thursday at 7 p.m. at Spirit Communications Park.
