Strong start carries Kannapolis past Fireflies

Kannapolis scored three runs in the first and third innings on its way to a 7-2 win over the Columbia Fireflies on Saturday at Spirit Communications Park.

Casey Schroeder drove in three runs, and Micker Adolfo added two for the Intimidators.

Columbia shortstop Andres Gimenez led the Fireflies by going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Columbia’s bullpen was stellar again. Cam Griffin and Adonis Uceta hurled 3 2/3 scoreless innings. The Fireflies’ bullpen ERA is now down to 1.80 over its last 12 games.

The game started late after by a 2:05 rain delay.

The two teams plays game two of the series Sunday at 5:05 p.m.
